The supply chain continues to shift and evolve at a rapid pace. To help industry professionals keep up with all the latest developments, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) is once again hosting its premier supply chain event, the annual EDGE Conference and Exhibition.

The EDGE Conference offers supply chain professionals a host of opportunities to meet face-to-face with peers and leading supply chain thinkers as they exchange ideas and share best practices. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Discover more than 100 forward-thinking sessions covering real-world supply chain strategies,
  • Learn from dynamic speakers and industry experts,
  • Network with leading, emerging, and future supply chain leaders from all over the world.

More than 2,700 supply chain professionals are expected to attend the three-day event which will feature 17 educational tracks. These educational tracks will address topics such as transportation and logistics, technology and innovation, sustainability, sourcing strategies, supply chain planning, risk mitigation, and leadership and talent development.

In addition to the conference, EDGE hosts a Supply Chain Exchange Exhibition, where attendees can explore and see the latest supply chain technologies. This year more than 175 exhibitors will showcase their latest, most cutting-edge products, technologies, systems, and equipment. During the Exhibition, several events will be held for attendees, which include:

  • Innovation Demo Sessions—“Shark Tank”-like sessions will be 15 minutes in length, allowing exhibitors and sponsor the opportunity to pitch their innovations and/or technologies, followed by a question and answer period.
  • Startup Alley—a designated area on the show floor will host startup companies in the following categories—supplier startups, shippers, venture capitalists, suppliers looking for new acquisitions and partnerships, and academia—to come together in a collaborative environment to discuss and learn about innovative solutions.

EDGE will also feature the annual Academic Research Symposium, the Donald J. Bowersox Doctoral Dissertation Symposium, and numerous leadership forums including a Future Leaders Reception, a Women Leaders Forum, an Executive Luncheon, and a Strategic Leaders Luncheon.

Suppliers report spare capacity for fourth straight month

Factory demand weakened across global economies in October, resulting in one of the highest levels of spare capacity at suppliers in over a year, according to a report from the New Jersey-based procurement and supply chain solutions provider GEP.

That result came from the company’s “GEP Global Supply Chain Volatility Index,” an indicator tracking demand conditions, shortages, transportation costs, inventories, and backlogs based on a monthly survey of 27,000 businesses. The October index number was -0.39, which was up only slightly from its level of -0.43 in September.

Small e-com firms struggle to find enough investment cash

Even as the e-commerce sector overall continues expanding toward a forecasted 41% of all retail sales by 2027, many small to medium e-commerce companies are struggling to find the investment funding they need to increase sales, according to a sector survey from online capital platform Stenn.

Global geopolitical instability and increasing inflation are causing e-commerce firms to face a liquidity crisis, which means companies may not be able to access the funds they need to grow, Stenn’s survey of 500 senior e-commerce leaders found. The research was conducted by Opinion Matters between August 29 and September 5.
