CSCMP: Your best source for SCM education and networking

CSCMP helps logistics and supply chain management professionals achieve success by providing them with the research, education, networking opportunities, and other programs and services they need to keep their skills and knowledge up-to-date.

Although transparent to most people, the supply chain management (SCM) discipline has become a visible force to the business community. SCM is increasingly recognized as a critical enabler of business and economic growth—by Wall Street investors and others who publicly measure company performance; by governments that are realizing that remaining globally competitive requires a well-connected, reliable infrastructure; and even by consumers, who are beginning to understand the complex systems that provide them access to the goods and services they want and need.

Supply chain professionals are taking on new challenges at a faster pace than ever before. Today's practitioners must be equipped with broader skill sets than their predecessors in order to strategically manage the cross-functional complexities that exist throughout modern organizations. To successfully manage end-to-end supply chains, they also should possess excellent interpersonal, managerial, and technical skills. The secret to supply chain success, then, is continuous learning, broad knowledge, and being prepared for the unexpected.

For more than five decades, CSCMP has helped logistics and supply chain management professionals achieve success by providing them with the research, education, networking opportunities, and other programs and services they need to keep their skills and knowledge up-to-date. For example, we offer on-site education tailored to an organization's specific requirements and delivered at its preferred location. Online education is another option, and includes our Supply Chain Management Essentials (SCME) program and Supply Chain Quick Courses. In today's competitive job market, CSCMP's unique, three-level SCPro certification program will help professionals master critical supply chain skills and gain advanced knowledge of supply chain operations.

CSCMP also develops and disseminates world-class research, such as our recently released 25th Annual "State of Logistics Report," presented by Penske Logistics. The statistics and industry insights contained in this highly respected benchmark report will help practitioners and their companies better prepare for the business demands that lie ahead.

CSCMP's global roundtables offer members the opportunity to learn at the local level and connect with peers in their own communities. And, our annual global conference—supply chain's premier event—provides attendees with three and a half days of world-class professional education and exclusive networking events. We hope you'll join us September 21-24 for this year's conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Organizations worldwide are beginning to appreciate that our profession is a core competency that generates revenues and profits, and that they must support that with knowledgeable, well-trained professionals and the latest technology. CSCMP has responded to this need by providing its members with the highest-quality supply chain and logistics management information, services, programs, and professional connections to be found anywhere in the world.

I invite you to experience all that CSCMP offers. Visit cscmp.org today.

Suppliers report spare capacity for fourth straight month

Factory demand weakened across global economies in October, resulting in one of the highest levels of spare capacity at suppliers in over a year, according to a report from the New Jersey-based procurement and supply chain solutions provider GEP.

That result came from the company’s “GEP Global Supply Chain Volatility Index,” an indicator tracking demand conditions, shortages, transportation costs, inventories, and backlogs based on a monthly survey of 27,000 businesses. The October index number was -0.39, which was up only slightly from its level of -0.43 in September.

Small e-com firms struggle to find enough investment cash

Even as the e-commerce sector overall continues expanding toward a forecasted 41% of all retail sales by 2027, many small to medium e-commerce companies are struggling to find the investment funding they need to increase sales, according to a sector survey from online capital platform Stenn.

Global geopolitical instability and increasing inflation are causing e-commerce firms to face a liquidity crisis, which means companies may not be able to access the funds they need to grow, Stenn’s survey of 500 senior e-commerce leaders found. The research was conducted by Opinion Matters between August 29 and September 5.
